The Golden Quest

By Jayme Miller

Once in a kingdom called Zorel, there lived an evil king who forced
everyone to be his slaves and gave none of his people any time to rest. A
boy named Neo swore one day to free the people of the kingdom. When he was
just 15 years old he went to question the king. He asked the king to let
the people go. The king said “You must slay a Dragon before I will free
the people of the kingdom.” Early the next morning Neo left to slay a
dragon. He put on the most stunning suit of armour; it was made of pure
gold with a green feather on top of the helmet. His sword was the most
powerful sword in the world, and his shield was pure gold with emeralds
and sapphires in the centre of it.

He travelled far to reach the dragons cave, where he finally met the
dragon. It was five times the size of an elephant. The dragon was as green
as a crocodile, and the fire in the dragon’s breath was hot enough to melt
stone. So Neo trusted his luck and threw his sword at the giant dragon,
and it struck the mighty beast. The dragon was knocked to the ground by
the power of the sword and seemed to be paralysed, until a black knight
emerged from the belly of the beast. Neo just stood there stunned, and
couldn’t understand what had just happened.

The mighty black knight asked in a very deep voice, “Are you Neo?” Neo
replies, “That is my name but what do you want from me?” The black knight
does not reply. Instead he draws his sword and as he strikes down on Neo.
Neo quickly shields himself from the powerful attack. Neo rests his sword
on the black knight, and using the power of the sword the black knight is
paralysed. The black knight drops his sword and falls to his knees. Neo
asks the knight, “Who or what are you?” The knight answers in a quiet but
deep voice, “I am Zahn, the spirit of all dragons, and I have a deal to
make with you.” Neo asks, “What is this deal you speak of?” The black
knight replies, “If you promise to protect the remaining dragons, I will
give you the power to rule the land of Zorel.”  Neo agrees to this and
promises to protect the dragons. Zahn then disappears in a cloud of dark
green smoke.

Neo returns to Zorel to find all of the people celebrating his return. He
asks an old man, “What is going on?” The old man tells him that the evil
king has vanished and Neo has been elected as the new king of Zorel. Neo
steps up to his throne and promises his people that they will never be
forced into slavery again.
