Today 6W presented a dramatic presentation at assembly on saving and protecting the Daintree Rainforest in far North Queensland. A scenario was presented whereby ”Mac’s Developers” wanted to build a resort in the Daintree. The children identified the stakeholders; people, animals and plants that would be affected by the development, and put forward their opinions on the development. The Stakeholders were the developers, the Indigenous people of the area, wildlife rangers, animals, the greens, scientists, plants, residents, tourist operators and the tourists. The children did a great job and the message about saving our beautiful rainforest was well received by the rest of the children in the school. A great job 6W!

When do you use Maths? How do your parents use Maths?

Large, deep thorns in my feet, branches lashing in my face, my heart was pumping deeper then ever before.  I was not caring what condition I was
in.

For a second I heard a sound, the sound of a roaring car. So I raced to find
the sound. Then a minute later I found the road and about 5 minute later I
was at the road. Standing like a sloth not knowing what street I was
in or where I was, I saw a shiny blue car flying past. Then about 1
minute later it came back and stops right in front of me.

“Are you alright?” said the man in the car gently.

 I said, “No”

 He said, “Would like a lift?”

 I gratefully said, “Yes!”

Here’s some great writing. Let us know what you think about “Found!” by Jayme M

They made me, but they will regret that. I was lost but now I’m…found.

I slip and stumble on poisonous ivy and half eaten strange creatures though I don’t get my revenge because they like me are failed experiments.

They see the light from which I am running and they, slither, crawl and hop with me. I only have a few patches of bloody flesh from the cruelty of my creators. I live forever to destroy until dawn.

Suddenly a net shoots and captures me and my brothers. Then the forests echo with laughter…

Here’s another great piece of writing. This one is “Lost” by Rhyan Z

Running through the bush with the twigs snapping under my bare feet, the razor-like tree branches lashing at my face, searing pain was rushing through all of my body. I couldn’t tell what was worse, being lost or being caught.

On and on I ran, ignoring the condition I was in. I had to escape that tower of torment, that citadel of crushing torture. I looked behind me, seeing noone but tripping on the root of a tree and falling face first onto the ground, right into a patch of thistles, how it hurt! But I knew I had to continue on. It didn’t matter how long it took, even if I had no idea where I was.

After about a day’s worth of running I still kept running. I collapsed in a heap, exhausted and utterly crushed. I built up the power to just scramble over to a nearby gum tree. I lay at the foot of the tree and felt the cool breeze of the winter’s night come upon me. I listened to the surrounding sounds, the hooting of an owl, the bussing of a cicada, the humming noise of a nearby car. A car? I’m saved!

I threw myself off the ground and jolted to the sound. I launched out of the bush onto the rocky road. Hurrah. I knelt down, relaxed and got up again, just to hear the screeching of a car around the corner…

…and here is another piece from Rhyan.  This is LOST 2

Quickly I sprang off the ground and on to my feet, knowing that there was a car coming. I dived out of the way and slightly missed the zooming car, but when there is the good, there is the bad. I dived on the wrong side of the road and slid down a cliff!

I tumbled and rolled down the hill, becoming fatigued each time I hit a jagged rock bulging out of the cliffside. I saw a tree branch hanging out of the side of the cliff! I seized the opportunity (literally) and grabbed the branch. Yes! I did it! I hung there for a while until I heard clattering, Scorpions!

Soon the whole tree branch was infested with deadly scorpions! I knew if I was there any longer I could have been killed so I pulled myself up, but the pain was too  sincere in my chest. The scorpions drew closer and closer each second so I had to act fast, Agh! One of the scorpions had impaled my hand with its stinger! Before I could do anything the poison took effect and I fell to what I thought would be certain death……
